L2studio architecture provided services to renovate the basement of Binghamton University’s Pharmacy School in downtown Johnson City, NY. The project consisted of a fitout of the 8,000 sq ft basement space in a newly completed multi-story Pharmacy School building. The project space houses facilities for the University Police Department (UPD), Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), Campus Information Technology (IT) and Physical Facilities.
L2studio architecture worked closely with Binghamton University’s Police Department to program and design a police sub-station within the facility. The UPD Suite includes a remote command center that can be utilized during emergency situations. Redundant heating and cooling systems were provided to satisfy this requirement, as well as a toilet room, enabling personnel to maintain a presence in the command center throughout the duration of an event.
The IT space contains remote data equipment connected to the primary data center at the main campus. Along with redundant heating and cooling systems, a fire suppression system consisting of water mist and nitrogen was installed to effectively mitigate fires while eliminating the global warming potential of traditional data center suppression systems.
