The owners approached us to create additional space in their home for entertaining, and a new “ballroom” became the focus that drove the design. The creation of a large space for formal and informal gatherings was important to the owner, as well as to maintain the Colonial-style detailing of the house. The rear portico entrance, brick quoins, dentil molding, brick retaining walls and bluestone patio/ walkway became important architectural elements that defined the exterior.
The interior was arranged into three distinct spaces: The ballroom, the art studio and the mudroom. The architect worked with the owner to design an intricate coffered ceiling to give the feeling of height within the ballroom.
A large expansive window wall along the ballroom exterior, looking out to the garden patio, creates a strong inside/outside connection, and expands the outdoor entertainment possibilities.
